Abstract: In this presentation we will present models for scheduling railway rolling stock and crew. Next, we will show how these models can be extended to be applicable for re-scheduling of rolling stock and crew. The latter may be necessary briefly before the day of operations, but also during the day of operations due to disruptions. In contrast with scheduling from scratch, in the case of re-scheduling one has to take into account many details of the existing schedules that have been determined in an earlier planning stage. For example, for rolling stock re-scheduling one has to consider the initially planned shunting processes. For crew re-scheduling one has to consider the fact that the time interval of each duty can change to a limited extent only. Experiments with the described models for re-scheduling are currently being carried out within Netherlands Railways.
